Recharging From the Crazy

This week was, has been, one of those weeks. It’s had ups and downs and I’m ready for it to be over. Have you ever had one of those weeks that no matter how much you try, nothing seems to go right and it is the longest week of your life. I know you have. Everyone’s had a week like this at one point in time.

So after a week like that, how do you recover and get out of the funk? For me it’s a week off school. Thank to the impeccable time of Spring Break, I get to rest, relax, and recharge for a week. I hope coming back to school after Spring Break will be better and we start the downhill slide into the end of the year.

What happens when you don’t get a week off? I know for many people the weekend is a time to rest and recharge, but if you’re like me and work two job, you may only get one day off a week or possibly no days off at all. (I have been there. I feel you pain.) So what then?

Everyone has to has a way to recharge their batteries. I know with kids and all the other responsibilities itis hard to find the time, but it’s important to remember that moms still need to be taken care of, and there is time we need to put ourselves first.

So here’s some things I do that help me to find my balance again:

  1. Read a Book: Reading is a great escape for me. I get to hide in someone else’s life for a little while and forget about what is going on in my own. My brain can process through what it needs to while I take and adventure in a book. It is the best of both worlds.
  2. Go to the Zoo: We have a fabulous zoo in Wichita. It’s nice to take the kids and wonder around to see all our favorite animals. I personally like the river otters, tigers, and the gorillas. There is something soothing about watching the animals.
  3. Write: I like to write stories (and my blog). I have several ongoing stories that I’m working on. It is relaxing to work with the characters and see how their story will unfold from my imagination. It also lets me express some of my own frustrations and work through my problems. I can write about what is happening and if I don’t like it, I can just edit it out.
  4. Work in the Garden: We have several large flower beds and a garden in the summer. While weeding is not my favorite thing to do, I like to plug in my headphones and block out the world as I yank the weeds from my flowerbeds. There is something therapeutic about  getting rid of something that doesn’t belong.

While these may not work for you, I hope I can give you some inspiration to find something of your own to help you relax and recharge. Leave your ideas in the comments and maybe I can use some of your ideas over the next week. Have a great week!
